Started the multi-year project the day businesses opened after COVID shutdown in Vermont (Spring 2020). Afraid to smile due to need for extensive work. Our whole family goes to Main St Family Dentistry and feel very well cared for. They are careful and intentional in their practice and are excellent at explaining what is happening and what they are doing. We appreciate the gentle approach to applying local anesthetic and their ability to go slowly and carefully to reduce pain and discomfort. Recently our 10 year old had her teeth pulled, when I asked her what the worst part was she said having lips that were numb. A successful procedure that could have be so much harder! | I am impressed with the knowledge and expertise of all of the dental hygienists at Main St. Family Dentistry. They do a very thorough and competent job and are always happy to explain what they're doing and give me good tips for self-care between visits. I saw Dakota on this past visit. She did a good efficient job taking the full-mouth X rays and used the water pick for cleaning my teeth, which got them nice and clean. Because I'm older (71) and have some gum recession I've been approved for 4 professional cleanings per year now. I can already see that that's improving my dental health. On the visit before last the hygienist measured my "pockets" and some of them had actually improved since the last time they were checked. Way to go! I did have to sit in the waiting room for 17 minutes after the time the appointment was scheduled, this happens a lot. | The appointment went well, however 30 minutes in the waiting room because I arrived 5 min early and the doc was running late is not generally acceptable. I am an hourly employee so that cost me 1/2 hour in wages, and some disapproving looks from my supervisor for being gone from my desk for longer than anticipated time. My office is across the street and down 3 buildings so is just a 2 min walk. :( Anonymous |

| I recently started going to this practice and the whole I think this is a good dental office with capable and competent people. I have 2 areas for improvement: 1) The staff is constantly getting the insurance billing wrong. I have Delta Dental which is the most common insurance and they still mess it up almost every time. 2) I feel like I get up-sold on stuff all the time. Like, do I really need the fancy tooth paste for $12? And the area that isn't sensitive and my last dentist said was fine, why is that all of a sudden a "priority" to have get work? Hard to evaluate. Dr. Coakley and Dr. Burns are two of the best dentists I have ever seen, I know I am in good hands with them. Unfortunately, there is a dental hygienist on the team there with absolutely terrible bedside manner. She does not fit in with the rest of the fabulous team at Main Street Family Dentistry and the difference when you end up with an appointment with her is night and day. | The hygienist who has cleaned my teeth two times in a row is the best hygienist I’ve ever had. She hasn’t gouged my gums, not even once, and she is the most thorough hygienist I’ve ever had. I’ve had my teeth cleaned every 6 months without fail and I’m 71, so I’ve had a lot of dental cleanings! Sometimes I’ve felt like hygienists might be under the gun to pack in a certain number of cleanings in a day, which can be unfortunate for the patient, as well as annoying to feel rushed/have things missed or skipped. I got the time I deserved, and my teeth are sparkling clean and as smooth as glass. The building is lovely and historic, and spotlessly clean, by the way. Great practice. Kathleen |

Also, she made an accurate diagnosis of a problem so that when Dr. Coakley came in for her exam and confirmed the nature of the problem and made a referral for root canal work, this reassured me that i could trust that this was the right decision, even though I somewhat dread root canal work. | I’ve had several procedures done recently, including a new crown and a periodontal cleaning. I appreciate the attention to medical issues in this time of COVID, and the isolation set up you’ve employed. Wait times are still a bit long, especially given that it’s recommended that we spend minimal time indoors with others until we can achieve herd immunity. Having more staggered appointments would also help the parking. I think you provide the best care for my teeth possible, and that both dentists, your specialist assistants, and periodontal hygienists are the best. A particular shout out to Becky, Danielle, and Dr. Coakley for their excellent care. Fran L |

| I want to take this opportunity to let you know I was a little disappointed with my experience yesterday. I appreciate all that you are doing during the pandemic to keep us all safe and that is all of us both you and your patients. To that extent my understanding was patients would remain in their cars until you were ready to take them. This I thought would prevent the gathering of patients in the waiting room for an extended period of time. Yesterday we arrived early but called to let you know we were there. We were told to come in. Once in the waiting room my daughter waited 20 minutes before she went in. And she estimates about four other patients sat near her during this time. I am sure it is ok but given the option I would prefer she stay outside in the car and wait versus inside. Perhaps something came up that delayed her appointment or she was told to come in too early. Either way I wanted you to be aware the experience was concerning given the environment we are in with Sandy C |

| My initial appointment for a crown was Thursday morning and though it took a couple of hours, I left feeling assured and that Destine and Dr. Croakley are an amazing team. They made sure I was informed and comfortable so the progress toward my temporary and permanent crown would be a perfect fit. I bet they did this. At this writing 32 hours later, the temporary crown still feels intact and rests comfortably in my mouth. Great work! Denise |

| I had a very difficult appointment. I had to get my 5-year xrays, which is always a struggle as I have a very sensitive gag reflex. I was with a new (to me) hygienist who never told me her name. She did her best to make me comfortable, and was very compassionate, but I at one point asked if we could delay the xrays until a future appointment since I was having such a hard time, and I didn’t feel heard. It ended up taking about 40 minutes just to do the XRays, and after the dentist came to look at them the hygienist asked if I’d be available for another appointment on Friday. At no point up until then did she mention that I might have to forego my cleaning. I didn’t feel like my time was respected or that I was given any options about what type of care was the priority (I would have prioritized the cleaning over the xrays given limited time). I did not feel like I had any control over the situation. I have generally had very positive experiences at the practice so this was a very frustr Carolyn W |

| It was my first visit since COVID-19 and I'm impressed by the precautions taken by this office before and during my appointment. Angela was all geared up for my cleaning and had all the PPE she needed to keep us safe, yet she was as friendly and competent as always. She put a fancy new water suction in my cheek that kept the spray away from her as she polished my teeth. Dr. Coakley came in for my annual check-up and confirmed Angela's discovery of a problem with an old filling. It has a crack and needs to be fixed soon. The one thing that's always bothered me over the years but really struck me as irritating this past visit is the radio station playing in the background: I didn't want to ask the kind hygienist to turn it off, but I couldn't tune it out and felt trapped listening to music (and lyrics) I abhor. | I had pulled off a crown on my number three tooth by aggressively flossing on a late Sunday night. I went in to see Dr. Kelly Burns at 8 AM on Monday as a walk in without an appointment. The office staff accommodated me graciously and I was seen within a half an hour and the crown replaced all with Efficiency, ease, and grace. I've only had a couple of appointments since moving to Montpelier yet I'm greeted by name and they start my appointment on-time rather than making me wait. My grandkids recommended Main Street Family Dentistry, telling me they are 'really cool' so I had to try them! I travel a great deal so I appreciated being given an extra tube of fixative in case my temporary crown came off while working abroad - didn't need it but this small consideration made my trip a bit less stressful. I also appreciate that when they clean my teeth it's not a painful procedure as I've often experienced with other dental practices. Bob |

| Hi Guys--my latest visit was a bit overwhelming (?). The hygienist who cleaned my teeth did a great job and was very thorough. So thorough that she discovered that the post under my crown at #15 ? was partially missing (rotted out). Wondering how this occurred in only 6 months. The new DDS came in to check on this and I was a bit overwhelmed with a quick and very technical description of implants, sinus cavities, bone graphs, and not enough room to really do it correctly. Next thing you know I am off to the oral surgeon to have the tooth extracted.... this was a crown done by Dr. Venmar (yeah I know) and one that I came to you originally to get corrected I believe. So I am not upset or angry but kind of reeling from the quick decisions and would have appreciated a fuller (and slower) description of my options and consequences/results..Thanks-Joe Joe B |

| As a kid, I used to be terrified of the dentist, which continued into adulthood. I even worked at a dentists office in reception for a bit (odd choice for someone terrified of the dentist, I realize). I have never felt as comfortable as I do at Main Street Family Dentistry. I actually come 4 times per year now that I have an HSA I can use - while a teeth cleaning isn't necessarily in my top 10 favorite things to do on a given day, I genuinely enjoy talking with my hygienist, Abbey, and the other staff members always make me feel extremely welcome and taken care of. Feedback/Suggestion from the dentist office I used to work at in MA - we offered mini chap-sticks or little tiny lip balm pods for people to use and take home because your lips dry out when someone is working in your mouth (I notice this now every time I'm in, haha!). | Until I started going to Main Street Family Dentistry I was petrified and full of anxiety at even just the thought of visiting the dentist. I'd had quite a few less than par experiences with other dental offices who made me feel bad about work that I needed done and overwhelmed me with how much everything would cost and almost made me feel like they were looking down upon me. I've had the pleasure of being seen by both Cassandra and Kelly for the last 5 (ish) years and I can't say enough good things about them. Kelly has really taken the time to break things down for me and told me not to worry, that we'd take things step by step and get it all done in due time. From the moment I walk in their office I'm greeted with a friendly hello and smile and to top it off, know me by my first name. I also love Shauna who does my cleanings and there again, she never "harps" on me, just coaches me on ways I can improve and maintain my dental work. | A very good experience for my daughter. She was anxious beforehand, but afterward reported that the hygienist was really good at helping her relax. She felt as though she were treated more like a grown up than a child, not spoken down to, since she is 13. She was able to focus and learn how to floss for the first time, feeling like she understood really how to do it. She even followed through and did floss later that day. | I live more than 45 minutes from Main Street Family Dentists, and logically, I should break-up with them and find a dentist closer to my residence. I've been saying that now for 12 years. | It would be nice to have the hygienists introduce themselves when they meet you for the first time (and maybe second or third, too) so you know whose hands are going to be in your mouth. Dentistry feels like a very personal experience, and can be either made impersonal or comfortable by taking or leaving out the step of telling the patient who you are. Even a name tag, placard, or something else would be helpful if a staff member forgets. Also, artwork on the ceiling would be terrific. Anonymous |

| I had my semi-annual cleaning and bi-annual(?) x-rays yesterday and wanted to let folks know this is a great establishment. We've been patients there for going on 8 years. My hygienist is proactive and keeps me aware of the importance of taking care of my teeth and gums before things get out of hand. She's very thorough and does hurt me. | One word Amazing. I hadn't seen a dentist in 17 years and my wife 25. We are both terrified of getting a hack dentist. So wr took our time carefully researching for months who we may see. After many hours of looking over reviews on the Internet and talking with others, one dental assistant told us, out of all the dentists out there she had only 4 she would trust with her mouth and 2 of them worked in this practice. Finally we made the choice of Main Street Dentistry. We are so happy we chose this practice they are amazing. I understand the calendar fills up, however I wonder if they would be so forward if they knew they couldn't just bill insurance. I feel marketed to and I don't like that feeling. They have been a little aggressive in trying to book me to come in to get cavities filled when I've indicated to them that I reached my quota for the year in how many cavities I can get filled. I have confirmed this with insurance and the staff questions me about this every time. I question whether filling all of those cavities is really necessary and whether a more conservative approach would be better. I wish that they had later appointments for cleanings because I value going Anonymous |

My teeth are the healthiest they've ever been, and Abby is a miracle motivator as a hygienist, as well as an all-around lovely and engaging person. MSFD's reasonable rates, combined with top-flight expertise and honest caring, make this the ideal practice if you want a dentist who's up to date on all the most recent treatments yet willing to work with you and your budget.
